Performing Arts & Culture
Every effort is made by the school to encourage all the performing arts and to provide opportunities for the pupils to participate in public performances. This is an exciting area of school life and the development of the talents of the pupils remains a high priority in the school’s planning.
Cultural exchanges with other countries are a valuable way of appreciating our heritage and of preparing our pupils for the future.
Choir work remains an integral part of the school programme and the choir performs at school assemblies and functions.
A number of individuals also sing in provincial choirs.
Embeth played the main role of “Helen” in Steven Spielberg’s classical film, “Schindler’s List”.
Her early dramatic roles were with Paul Myburgh on the school stage from 1979 to 1983.
In a radio interview Embeth said that she was inspired at school by her two English educators, Mrs Ruth Scheepers and Mr Lindsay Raeburn.
In 1999, whilst continuing in the medical fraternity, he began anchoring the television show Top Billing in South Africa.
Michael Mol has claimed media awards including Best on Camera Presentation at the NTVA Awards in 2000, 2001 and 2003 and Best Male Television Presenter at the People Magazine Crystal Awardsin 2008. Michael is a former Mr. South Africa (1996), he is also a Red Cross Children’s Champion and a patron of SA Cares for Life.
Ryan Hammond is a South African professional ballroom dancer best known for partnering a variety of celebrities on the reality dance show Strictly Come Dancing.
Ryan’s brother and sister, Haley and Darren, also attended The Glen High School. They are also well celebrated professional dancers.
In 1995 she entered and won the coveted Miss South Africa title and the year proved to be a highlight of her life.
